Saving Money Through Texas Energy Efficiency Investments

As one of the fastest growing states in the US, Texas is challenged with increasing its productivity and it can do this by increasing investments in energy efficiency initiatives that can save both residential and commercial users of Texas electricity literally billions of dollars over the next two decades. Seems like an impossible task? According to the American Council for the Energy-Efficient Economy or ACEEE, such proposition is not only possible but completely doable.

In a recent study conducted by the ACEEE called Energy Efficiency Investments as an Economic Productivity Strategy for Texas, energy efficiency programs in the state could reduce Texas electricity consumption by up to 30% by the year 2030, creating savings for electricity users of up to $14 billion within that period. Not only that, energy efficiency initiatives in the state will also boost employment by creating up to 47,000 jobs each year until the projected period of 2030.

The 30% projected reduction in Texas electricity consumption was based on targets set by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) for energy efficiency improvements. Also taken into consideration are the estimates made by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) which handles the energy deregulated areas in the state. However, these projected figures will only be achieved with the expansion of current energy efficiency investments which spans all sectors including commercial, industrial and residential area.

Supercharger calculators are based on several basic equations that govern the performance and the physical rules that bind superchargers. At the very heart of the matter, superchargers work on the Ideal Gas Law where PV = NRT Pressure x Volume = Number of gas molecules X a constant X temperature. What superchargers do, is that they feed the engine with more air molecules, by over feeding the engine with forced air. This air is forced into the engine due to the supercharger blowing more air into the engine inlet, than the engine would normally breathe under its own device. The result of this ‘forced induction’ can be observed and measured in one of two aspects: Pressure or Temperature. In an ideal world, with a supercharger that has perfect adiabatic efficiency, we are able to feed the engine twice as many air molecules (to double the horsepower figure), by doubling the inlet air pressure (to 2.0 atmosphere or what we call 15 pounds per square inch (PSI) of boost). In the real world, superchargers are not 100% efficient, and so it is possible that doubling the inlet boost pressure gives us less than double the horsepower due to the following:

P*V=n*R*T Pressure increases by a factor of 2 Volume is fixed Number of gas molecules increases by 80% (or a factor of 1.8) Temperature increases by a factor 11% (or a factor of 1.11) If we look at our equation above we can see: 2*P*V = 1.8*N*R* 1.11T The equation is balanced as 2.0X1 = 1.8 * 1.11 (the rise in pressure is equaled by the combined effect of the rise in airflow and the rise in temperature).

How Do Goodyear Fuel Max Tires Work

How do GoodYear Fuel Max Tires work? This is a pretty common question these days with the commercials GoodYear is running advertising greater fuel efficiency without compromise. Well the basic premise behind them is that reducing the amount of friction created between tire and road when the car is rolling reduces the amount of energy needed to overcome that friction. Less friction, less energy, less gas. People have been building tires designed for fuel economy for quite some time by mixing silica into the tread compound which serves to reduce the friction between tire and road. These Silica based tires do dramatically reduced rolling resistance, which leads to better fuel economy, but they suffer from decreased tread life as compared to traditional carbon black tires. This means that fuel economy tires made with a high amount of silica in them will wear out more quickly than traditional tires. Like these other fuel efficiency tires, the Good Year Fuel Max tires use silica filler, but this is where the similarities end.

In GoodYear Fuel Max tires the silica is blended into a different compound then what is used in normal fuel efficiency tires. Good Year specially engineered this new tire compound to interact with the Silica in such a way as to increase overall tread strength. Good Year does not make it clear exactly how this is achieved, not wanting the competition to copy their ideas, but they do hint that it has something to do with improving the overall dispersion of the silica in the tread of the Fuel Max tires. This compound maintains the reductions in rolling resistance typically achieved with silica filler but avoids the downside of shortened tread life. This allows the Fuel Max tires to have equal tread life to traditional carbon black tires while still increasing your fuel economy, thus the advertisements for better fuel economy without a sacrifice.

In addition to the material characteristics of the tires, the Good Year Fuel Max tires also use a dual tread zone design to improve tread wear. This design allows for the deep grooves and micro-grooves that give good wet-weather traction to be placed in the center of the tires where they are not subject to the harsh treatment the edges of the tires receive during cornering. The edges of the tires, meanwhile, are designed for dry traction and performance with stronger shoulders that stand up to wear and tear. The special material in the Good Year Fuel Max tires and the wear resistant design make them a great way to increase fuel efficiency without sacrificing comfort or tread life. Also, recent studies have found that the fuel savings seen over the life of a set of GoodYear Fuel Max tires off sets the Co2 produced from the manufacture of the tires, making them the most environmentally friendly tire on the road.
